In its pursuit to provide 10 lakh jobs in the state, Bihar cabinet on Tuesday decided to create 75543 posts for policemen under different categories. The cabinet altogether approved 13 agendas.
Briefing media persons about the cabinet decisions, additional chief secretary S Siddharth said that the cabinet has approved the creation of 7808 posts for the first phase of Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) Dial 112, of police cadre and non-police cadre.
The state government, in order to increase the strength of police force to meet the requirements of growing population, has decided to do direct appointment of police on 48447 posts. “The cabinet has also sanctioned 19288 posts under ERSS phase 2 recruitment,” said the additional chief secretary.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar during the closing ceremony of Police Week on February 27, 2022 had said that the state government was aiming at increasing the number of policemen in the state from 165 to 170 per one lakh population.
It is worth mentioning that the sanctioned strength of policemen per lakh persons in India is 195.39 while the actual number is 155.78. At the same time, Bihar still has only 100 policemen per one lakh population.
